Wishes for Little Bug

Again, no pictures. Yes, I am a slacker Momma this week- but I promise this weekend will yield a ton of photos.
While I was waiting last year for Little Bug to come home, I heard about a 100 good wishes quilt. It is a Chinese tradition that has been picked up by the families adopting from China. I thought that there was no reason why I could not start a 100 good wishes quilt for Little Bug. Thankfully another friend had sent out a letter that explained the process, so I started with that. I ended up joining an on-line yahoo group for 100 good wishes quilts in order to get all the wishes I needed to complete the Little Bug's quilt, but that is another story.
I had struggled with what gift to give Little Bug's first family when I went down to pick him up and I decided to make quilts for them- see the pictures below. As I was working on the 100 good wishes quilt, I thought about including fabric from the quilts I made for his first family in the quilt and then I got brave enough to ask them write out wishes for him so that their wishes would be included. Thank you D for translating the email to them so they understood my request.
At the pick up trip (remind me, I want to write a blog on the phrase "pick up trip" - I hate the phrase and I am searching for another way to express it), Little Bug's first family gave me the wishes they wrote and a letter for him. I did not trust my limit Spanish to translate the wishes (thank God) and D again provided the translations for me.
I am humbled by the wishes they gave to Little Bug and I would like to share them with you.

Wish 1: May you never feel loneliness in your heart. God has a plan for you. Make something marvelous of your life so that He and those who love you can be proud of you.

Wish 2: I wish you a life surrounded by true friends. One true friend is worth more than a brother who is far away.

Wish 3: May God always extend his hand and guide you down the right path.

Wish 4: Don't reject the teachings of your mother. She will guide your steps and, even in her sleep, still she will watch over you. Put all your heart into learning, open your ears to wise words.

Wish 5: Open your heart and follow the path laid before you, follow your dreams and Bon voyage.

Wish 6: Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4)

I cried as I read these wishes, wishes for Little Bug to follow the Lord, to love learning, to be a man of God.
My words are not coming through as I wish they would, I can not find the words to express how I feel so that when the words are translated, Carlos, Mireya, Suzi, Karla, Andrea and the extended family understand how much Little Bug's life is reflection of their love. Human personalities are formed by the time we are 3 years old, Little Bug spent 2 years with his first family, they have had the greatest influence on his life and the molding of his personality. His smile is the smile they taught him, his laugh is the laugh they taught him, his mannerisms- well let's just say I have pictures of Senor Carlos in the exact same poses that I see Little Bug in. So many reflections of them are in him. How can I help him not lose these things, to see in the coming years the vital, honored place that they have in his life.
I stand in awe of the wishes they have for his life, no thought of themselves, but of his soul and his heart.

I pray that the blessings that they have given to Little Bug are pour out over their lives as a testament to love they poured out on Little Bug. what powerful witnesses they are to him and to me.

Hello! It's me your secret blog pal! I finally got the chance to visit your blog today. I wish I could share mine with you... but that will have to wait.

Little Bug is so cute. I love all his curls. The two of you seem well matched and it appears he was well worth your struggle and wait. How fun to be planning his 2nd birthday bash. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures from the festivities on your blog.

I'll be in touch again soon. God Bless.
