An update- no pictures though

Today was a happy day at our house- we got our car back!!!!!!!!!

After driving a very different car for 4 days, I really appreciate my car. Even Bug was missing his car- last night when I picked him up, he asked for his car and his blanket (the blanket was in the wash). Then on the way home he asked for his CD (in the shop with our car).

I will say that while my car is 11.5 years old, it only has 80,000 miles on it. I bought it from the original owner (my parents), so I know the service history. I have continued to take my car to the same service department, so they know the history. I really don't want a new car, so this one will be nursed along until it gives up the ghost.

The car I had while my car was in the shop was a VIBE. It was way too small for us- Bug's feet could not hang off the car seat due to my seat being in the way. I was as close as possible to the steering wheel in order to give him more room and that was uncomfortable for me too. If I had put the seat where I wanted it, my seat would have been touching the back seat. Supposedly this car gets great gas mileage, but please don't tell my wallet that- I put gas in the car while driving it over 4 day- I was under 50 miles for the entire 4 days.

We liked the sun roof and I like that it sat higher than my car- but according to my dad that is because the seats are firmer (read HARDER). All in all, I was so excited to get in my car this morning.

Bug and I are heading to the football game tomorrow so there will be some pictures from the game (of Bug watching) and pictures of the band playing at half time (cousin Jason is in the Pit crew). The weather is supposed to be great- so it should be fun.

Love and hugs,
Deb

I had planned to blog about voting- I voted yesterday. Absentee ballots are great. I thought I would be traveling on election day (turns out I will be traveling the next day). But since I did not know the exact dates for my business travel, I requested an absentee ballot. The nice thing is now that I have voted, I can sit back and watch the election unfold. Of course, I wish there was some way to contact the various campaigns and special interest groups to let them know it is futile to call me- I had 10 calls on my answering machine after vacation and that included my work line. Today I got 4 calls after lunch from special interest groups trying to get me to vote one way or the other.
I am tired of the election, I am tired of the ads, the smears, the spin- I just want the election to be over. I am over the US networks coverage of the election- I am watching the BBC for coverage of the debates and for evening news. I think I will be watching BBC on election night.

I am off to the finale of Project Runway- thanks Bill for getting me hooked on this show.

Love and hugs to you,
Deb

The aftermath of vacation

At 5 am this morning I was still wide awake. Yes, you read that right, i never went to sleep last night. Why you ask-

well, on the trip my car was having some difficulty at 1.5 RPMs (it has had problems at this point for a long time), about 40 miles from home, the check engine light came on. We pulled off the interstate and Pap checked everything and declared us fine. I was not so sure. I smelled that very dry burning smell that you get when your clothes have been in the dryer too long on high heat. So I worried all night.
I finally fell asleep on the couch at 5:30 this morning, but got up at 7 am and then again at 8:30. Bug and I took the car to the repair shop.

As Bug was playing in the new cars pretending to drive them, Gary came over an asked me if there was anything I liked on the showroom floor. That was when I knew it was going to be bad. Sure enough, I need a new transmission.

I can not afford a new car right now or a car payment, so a new transmission is what we are getting. I am not happy- I just paid off a big chunk of debt, I really can not afford this hit to our budget, but it is what it is. I think I am going to have to figure out a way to start saving for a new car- I am thinking mini van or station wagon. Seriously leaning toward station wagon.

I am off to nap now while Bug sleeps. perhaps this entire situation will look better after some rest. Thankfully I am still on vacation until Wednesday.

Love and hugs,
Deb
